INTRODUCTION
The site works involving infrastructure, access roads and other communication facilities have been commenced one year back .We have awarded the civil works contract to M/s Seven Energies Odisha Ltd.All the materials will be supplied by BPPL.The construction of barrage and Intake started after the monsoon and after obtaining the stage 2 forest clearance in November 2014. 

STAFF FOR  THE PROJECT
Adequate technical and skilled staff have been mobilized by BPPL and Seven Energies Odisha Ltd to the site to take care of the current works. The Organization chart of both the companies is separately furnished. Few staff stay with family at the nearest town at Anandapur. Most of the staff who are bachelors stay at site. Necessary infrastructure and conveyance has been created at site. The following table gives details of the total staff including Seven Energies Odisha Ltd available for the project:

In addition to the above, twenty skilled staff sourced from the local area have been kept at site and work has been allocated to them. The local skilled commute from their residences to the site and go back to their place after the day’s work. Some of the skilled staff stay at staff camp and skilled camp provided at site.

ACEESS ROAD STATUS TO SITE:
The project work site is situated on the left bank of the Baitarani river. The present communication for the road lies on the right bank of the river. Therefore, on normal circumstances Baitarani Power have created the following approach roads from right bank to the left bank of the river. The main village road envisaged in the project report has been inordinately delayed by the rural works department. Therefore, Baitarani Power has surveyed the area around the project to find out alternative roads so that Equipment, Manpower and Material reach the site for construction purpose.

Baitarani Power Pvt Ltd has been maintaining a ferry service across the river from right to left bank since August 2013 to enable its staff visit the site and transport material manually across the river and then shift to the project area by tractor or trucks as the case may be.

COMMUNICATION FACILITIES

As the project site is remotely located there is no landline facility for telephone communication and the signal strength for mobile is not good. To improve the signal strength we have constructed a 14 m tower  and BSNL authorities have installed a repeater and antennas.

Internet facility is vital for a project site in construction. Airtel has installed VSAT dish antenna which provides a speed of 512 kbps. For internal communication of staff from Barrage location to Project office and Power house area, we have purchased Walkie Talkies.

INFRASTRUCTURE FOR CIVIL WORKS

Baitarani power has constructed the following infrastructure facilities to provide accommodation for stay, office space, storage, water supply, sewage facilities, food preparation, workshop and open yard to carry on with the works.  Since the approach across the river gets cut-off temporarily during monsoon floods, it has been found necessary to manage storage on both the banks of the river.

LIST OF EQUIPMENT MOBILISED FOR SITE WORKS

The project components for Baitarani Power Project involve construction of several  structures including preliminary works, access roads, development of infrastructure and main project components of barrage and intake. Until now the site is mobilized with adequate machinery for the construction works including Seven Energies Odisha Ltd  . The list of equipment shall be updated from time to time as further component of the main works are taken for construction.

In addition to the above, several electrical panel boards, light masts, water supply pumps, tools and implements have been mobilized and are working perfectly at site at several locations. The site is fully equipped with mechanical fabrication and erection equipment and tools for repair and maintenance of various equipment.

PRESENT STATUS OF THE PONTOON FABRICATION

The river Baitarani needs to be crossed by a boat during monsoon season when the river is in floods. The boat shall have adequate capacity to carry construction material and trucks by itself. Therefore, Baitarani Power has decided to make and deploy a motorized boat at site and it will operate where the pool water depth is more. A suitable site has been selected and surveyed for its operation. The boat is made of steel and is 18 m long x 6 m  widex 2.0 m depth in size.  The draft of the boat is 0.40 m. It has approach ramps of 6 m long on each end to facilitate smooth in and out of a loaded vehicle. The boat weighs 55 T. It has been completely fabricated. Baitarani Power has ordered for the engines, propellers, rudders and shafts to make it motorized. It is planned that the boat will be in fully functional during April 2015.

STATUS OF BARRAGE WORKS

This season i.e 2014-2015, after making Coffer Dam(10-12-2014 to 20-01-2015) having  length of 500m and height up to 60.00level, we started dewatering by our 10HP – 2 no Pumps, 6HP – 1 no & 3HP – 2 Nos pumps.

We started  barrage work on 24-01-2015 by removing sand from 61.00 Level to 58.50 level. For excavation of rock we used blasting method by 1 no Tractor Compressor from the month of Dec-2014 by drilling holes 32mm dia. And approx. 2.5 feet depth holes and charged by Power gel. After that in the month of feb-2015 we got wagon Drill CM 341 with 540CFM compressor machine which is very use full for surface rock excavation by blasting method. For Cutoff Trenches we used 3 Nos Tractor Compressors with Drilling Machine, the progress was much low upto May-2015 end.

In May-2015 end we got 5 Nos. Jack Hammers which are very useful, due to this we generated more holes and started blasting in alternate days. The total quantity of excavation in this season was soil 3695.00 cum and rock 7900 cum.

STATUS OF INTAKE WORKS

For intake area near left bank we excavated 4000cum of soil and to reach upto tunnel face we have to excavate from 105 level to 64.00 level as the level difference is greater so benches are required in frequent intervals. We made approach road to reach up to required top level with our excavator and start excavation layer wise. We had done upto 90.00 Level having hard soil excavation 2500 cum. We provided anchor rods for support of rock at every 2m interval. Intake 2nd Bench excavation  work is in progress.

The works are progressing as planned. The design consultant team, ICCS, make periodic visit to sort out the issues at site and recommend changes in the design to suit site conditions.  The blasted rock is being stored in designated places for the production of aggregate. Excavated sand is being stacked at site for use in concrete.

All excavation and marking are daily being checked by the survey team with regards to the alignment and levels as shown in the drawings.

STATUS OF DRAWINGS

Baitarani Power’s consultant Indo Canadian Consulting Services (ICCS), NOIDA,  have released adequate drawings for the cofferdam, intake lay out, barrage layout, foundation for the barrage, foundation for the intake, retaining walls at abutments, construction sequence, anchors in the foundation drawings periodically. In all 25 Construction Drawings have been issued based on which the site work is progressing adequately. There is no hold up of works due to drawings.

STATUS OF TRANSMISSION LINE

After the generation of 24 MW power it will be evacuated through 34 km long 132 kv single circuit transmission line upto 132/33 kv substation at Anandapur. We have already obtained the connectivity permission from OPTCL for evacuation of power.

In the first phase we have started construction of 12 kms of 132 kv line and the balance will be taken up subsequently so as to complete it by 2018 March when the project will be commissioned and power is generated. The 42 out of 44 Tower foundations are already constructed after obtaining Right of Way. The Tower  members are already procured and the erection of the same is in progress. The conductor and other accessories are under procurement and we want to charge the line at 33 kv by Oct 2015.We want to utilize the same line for construction power purpose of the project by connecting this line to nearest 33 kv line of North Eastern Supply Company of Odisha.

The electrical team headed by its Manager operates from the office situated at Dhaokota which is equidistant from Project site to Substation at Anandapur where the power will be evacuated after generation.We have constructed a store at Kanto village for keeping transmission line material like Tower members, Conductor and accessories etc.

STATUS OF QUALITY LABORATORY

Baitarani Power has established  a civil quality laboratory at site. The laboratory is headed by a quality engineer.  The site laboratory has facilities for sieve analysis, cube casting, slump test, sample collection of water and soil, determination of density of the concrete ingredients. The site quality laboratory has already  made mix design of the concrete for M25, M20 and M15 grade concrete. The cubes have been cast and the compression test on the cubes is being carried out in an external laboratory.

In the next phase, Baitarani Power will have its own laboratory equipment so that adequate tests on concrete can be made at site itself.

Baitarani Power is taking technical help from BASF for the mix design preparation with their chemicals and intends to use the construction chemicals from them for the project.

The project quality works are being guided by the project quality system developed at site. Adequate records are being kept at site for all tests and investigations done so far.

STATUS OF HSE

Baitarani Power has established a safety team at site to look after health, safety and environment aspects of the project and the persons working in the project. The site has prepared a Safety Plan which is under finalization. The safety team comprises of a safety officer and safety stewards.
